New Care Model

Keeping Couples Together

Imagine being a caregiving spouse to your partner with Alzheimer's. You spend days at their side in a memory care facility but nights apart. Ideally you want to live together as a couple — preferably in a home that looks and feels like a home — and have access to trained support as needed.

Recognizing this unmet need, we've developed a new model of memory care for couples. The new neighborhood at Brookridge in Winston-Salem includes 12 residences, each with a studio apartment at the back connected to care services and a secure courtyard. The innovative design ensures safety and support for a loved one when the caregiving spouse is unavailable. In addition, the neighborhood's circular layout fosters connections with neighbors who can be a source of support and friendship. There's simply nothing like it in the marketplace today. Small Scale. Big Impact.

Green House

We're bringing North Carolina's first Green House home to Taylor Glen in Concord. Unlike large institutional settings, Green Houses look and feel like a residential home. The smaller scale enables staff to better serve each resident, while residents are allowed more autonomy over their daily lives.

Since their launch in 2003, Green Houses have improved quality of life for residents, prolonged self-care ability, reduced depression and lowered staff turnover. The Green House at Taylor Glen will include 12 private rooms with bathrooms, a living room with a fireplace, a large family-style dining table and peaceful outdoor spaces.

Embracing Their Reality

Mindful Impressions

Meeting the growing demand for memory care isn't simply a case of adding more beds. Our residents and their family members expect and deserve better. With the goal to improve quality of life for individuals facing dementia, we partnered with Dementia by Day to develop Mindful Impressions, our signature memory care program.

Team members receive extensive training in dementia care, including how to better communicate with residents and troubleshoot challenging situations. The concept of "Embracing Their Reality" is central to our approach. By learning what's true for each person in our care, we create meaningful connections and provide emotional support when it's needed most.

Realizing Our Vision

Financial Goals

Throughout our 70-plus year history, generous financial support has helped provide quality care and welcoming neighborhoods in our North Carolina communities. We are excited to honor our Baptist heritage by providing IMMEASURABLY MORE for individuals with memory loss and the people who care for them.

We have set a goal of $3 million for these two projects:

$1 million for the Green House home. This is the estimated additional cost to build this model vs. a traditional assisted living facility.

$2 million for the couples' memory care residences. This goal supports operations and services debt at 80% occupancy, significantly reducing organizational risk. The project is fully sustainable at 95% occupancy.

Your gift to the IMMEASURABLY MORE campaign will provide the momentum we need to raise the standard of memory care for the people we're honored to serve.
