Kevin Cook Honored with LeadingAge NC Excellence in Leadership Award

ThriveMore is proud to celebrate Kevin Cook, our Chief Development Officer, as the recipient of the LeadingAge North Carolina Excellence in Leadership Award — a well-deserved honor that recognizes leaders who exemplify vision, integrity and a deep commitment to service.
Kevin was nominated for this award because he leads with clarity of purpose, strategic insight and genuine care for the people and communities ThriveMore exists to serve. Kevin’s leadership is distinguished not only by measurable outcomes, but by the inspiration and mentorship he brings to his work every day.
That’s one thing that stood out from his nomination, said Tom Akins, Leading Age NC President and CEO. Tom came to the corporate office Monday to present the award to Kevin. He shared that Kevin’s willingness to both support his team as well as teach them to do things themselves set him apart.
Over the past several years, Kevin has played a pivotal role in strengthening ThriveMore’s philanthropic arm, the Baptist Retirement Homes Foundation. Through thoughtful storytelling and relationship-building, he has helped deepen engagement with donors and partners across the state. That work has translated into tangible impact, including significant growth in philanthropic participation that directly supports life-enhancing programs and services for residents.
One of Kevin’s most notable recent accomplishments has been his leadership of the fundraising campaign for the EverTogether Residence. Under his guidance, the campaign has made substantial progress toward its $2 million goal — an achievement that reflects both his fundraising expertise and his ability to inspire confidence and shared vision among supporters.
While Kevin’s leadership is felt every day through his work, Monday’s celebration brought a special and memorable moment. The award presentation was kept a complete surprise — a carefully planned moment that caught Kevin off guard and made the recognition even more meaningful.
Surrounded by colleagues, family members and members of the ThriveMore leadership team, Kevin was visibly moved and thrilled to be honored in this way. The room was filled with pride, gratitude and celebration — not only for Kevin’s accomplishments, but for the values he represents and the example he sets for others.
Adding to the celebration, ThriveMore’s Corporate Executive Chef Eric Nooe prepared delicious refreshments for the gathering, making the occasion feel both festive and personal. Kevin’s family was able to attend, sharing in the surprise and the joy of seeing his work recognized by peers and partners from across the state.
At ThriveMore, we are grateful for Kevin’s leadership, proud of this well-earned recognition and thankful to LeadingAge North Carolina for honoring leaders who make such a meaningful difference.
